Internship Program

The Katz Media Internship program offers unsurpassed learning opportunities for dedicated individuals. Participation in our program provides exposure to the workings of the rep industry, as well as valuable hands-on experience. Many of our interns have been hired and gone on to successful careers as Account Executives, Research Analysts and Managers.

Internship sessions are available in the Summer, Fall and Spring. The Summer program requires full time work – Monday-Friday 9A-5P for eight weeks. The Fall and Spring sessions require a minimum of two days per week for the full school semester.

Katz internships are offered in exchange for course credit through your college or university. We offer a travel stipend to cover the cost of commuting.

Our 2008 Summer Internship Program will run from June 2 to July 25th.

Sales Assistant Interns

Sales Assistants are an integral part of the sales team and, in many respects, are the backbone of our sales operations. Sales Assistant Interns are paired up with Account Executives to handle the high volume of work in radio and television sales. The Sales Assistant Intern role can lead to a variety of positions in sales, research, marketing, the corporate area and the station or agency buying side of the business. In many cases, Sales Assistant Interns utilize this inside learning opportunity to prepare, promote and position themselves for our sales training programs. RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain sales agreements.
  • Enter orders in contract system.
  • Resolve discrepancies between stations and ad agencies.
  • Learn avail process i.e. demo, dayparts, flight dates, etc.
  • Attend sales meetings.
  • Attend Assistant seminars.
  • Accompany Account Executives on sales calls with
  • media buyers.
  • Generate general market information and ratings.
  • Produce at least one pre-sell piece (station positioning
  • and information.)
  • Work on special projects as assigned by management or
  • supervisors.
  • General administrative duties.
SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good organization skills and ability to prioritize workload.
  • Ability to be assertive and take initiative.
  • Ability to work both with a team and independently.
Research Interns
Research is essential to Katz, supplying salespeople with the information necessary for "closing" a sale. Information provided by the research department, such as station positioning, qualitative demographic profiles, up-to-date audience and station ratings and customized Powerpoint presentations, all demonstrate the advantages and strengths associated with buying time on Katz-represented stations. RESPONSIBILITIES: Research Interns acquire hands-on experience with a multitude of research concepts and computer based systems. Through their experience they develop an understanding of both the rep business and our company. Many interns use their experience to begin careers at Katz or in a related media field.
  • Work as an integral part of the research team.
  • Participate in department meetings.
  • Assist research manager and analyst in compiling research
  • materials and distributing to sales staff and client stations.
  • Help prepare marketing and sales-oriented graphic.
  • presentations for special projects based on syndicated
  • research sources.
  • Maintain and update research data on mainframe and PC information systems.
SPECIFICATIONS:
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Detail oriented, strong organizational skills.
