KATZ MEDIA GROUP'S DIVERSITY EXECUTIVE, BRIAN KNOX, KEYNOTES THE ANNUAL MEDIA SALES INSTITUTE CONFERENCE
New York, June 9, 2008 – Katz Media Group's Brian Knox, Senior Vice President and Director of Corporate Diversity, will keynote the annual Media Sales Institute conference on Thursday, June 12, at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The institute partners with the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation (NABEF) and the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters (NABOB).
The Media Sales Institute (MSI) provides ten days of hands-on training for college seniors and graduating students pursuing a career in media sales. The MSI recruits women and people of color to participate in its annual summer program. Last year's participants were from six colleges and universities across the country.
The MSI was founded in 2001 on the campus of Howard University. The program, designed to ensure a diverse workforce within the media sales field, allows participants to conduct mock sales presentations and meet with media companies for possible employment. This year's MSI sessions will take place at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL; Howard University in Washington, D.C.; and the University of North Texas in Denton, TX. Roughly 30 applicants are expected to participate in each MSI session.
"I am happy to continue my support of the Media Sales Institute and contribute to the program by showcasing to students the career opportunities in media sales," said Knox. "I realize the need for more minorities in the industry and I want to ensure that Katz Media Group does its part to ensure a diverse workforce."
Knox is a media sales veteran with more than 20 years of experience in the national radio sales industry. He joined Katz to work on marketing initiatives relating to African-American consumers. He currently focuses on company diversity initiatives that include minority recruitment and career development. In addition to his involvement with the MSI, he actively participates with The Emma Bowen Foundation and the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters. Knox was recently named to Radio Ink's annual list of the 35 Most Influential African-Americans in Radio for the third time.
