KATZ RADIO GROUP NAMES ED WHITMAN TO LEAD
KATZ TRI-STATE RADIO GROUP
New York, May 13, 2008 – Katz Media Group, the largest media representation company in the United States, today announced that the Katz Radio Group appointed Ed Whitman as Vice President and Director of Sales of Katz Tri-State Radio Group, which serves 60 radio stations in the suburbs of New York City.
Katz Tri-State Radio focuses on complimenting the New York City market by attracting advertisers to radio stations in the vast suburban markets in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The New York metropolitan area is a 20-county region with more than 15 million people, almost half of which are located outside the city’s five boroughs. The New York suburban market is home to many prestigious radio stations that place a high premium on delivering top quality local programming that’s attractive to advertisers.
Whitman, a 15-year veteran of the radio industry, joins the company from Cumulus Media, where for the past six years he was National Sales Manager in six Northeast markets, including Bridgeport and Danbury, Connecticut; Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Westchester, NY; and Bangor, Maine. Also joining Katz Tri-State Radio Group, formerly known as Katz Suburban, is Bruce Feniger, who was President of NetSolutions at Interep. He will serve as a Senior Account Manager for the division.
“Ed’s strong sales experience and exceptional understanding of the markets around New York City makes him the perfect choice to lead Katz Tri-State Radio,” said Mark Gray, President of Katz Radio Group. “There are millions of people living in New York City’s suburbs that work, play and shop close to home. We want to make sure that advertisers are maximizing their advertising dollars by strategically covering the entire New York metro area. We see enormous opportunities in this market, and I am confident that Ed and Bruce will do a spectacular job of growing this business.”
Before assuming his most recent post with Cumulus in 1997, Whitman worked at New York metro station WQCD-FM. A graduate of Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in Corporate Communications, Whitman was awarded Radio Ink’s 2005 Radio Wayne Award as National Sales Manager of the Year.
“I am delighted to join a company with Katz’s long history and first-class reputation,” Whitman said. “Katz’s superior station line-up offers us the opportunity to reach the millions of people in the suburbs who drive cars, own homes, travel, invest and buy expensive consumer products. Our goal is to do a better job of connecting advertisers with the consumers they need to reach.”
Feniger began his radio career in 1984 as an Account Executive at WFTQ/WAAF in Worcester, Massachusetts. He joined Interep’s McGavren Guild Radio in 1994 as an Account Executive in Atlanta and was promoted to New York Regional Sales Executive in 2002. He became President of NetSolutions in 2006, leading all aspects of Interep’s National Network Department. Bruce earned a Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in Bloomington.
